Nasa Looks For Water On The Moon

In mid 2009 NASA is launching the Lunar Crater Observation and Sensing Satellite, whose purpose is to search for water on the moon.

NASA scientists are planning to crash a rocket booster in to the moon sometime in October 2009, in an attempt to discover water.

The crash will cause a six mile high explosion on the surface of the moon, which will be visible to amateur astronomers here on Earth.

The LCROSS spacecraft will monitor the explosion from 400 miles above the moon, and scan the debris for the chemical signatures of water.

If water is discovered on the moon, it could provide a breakthrough for further manned exploration.
